Neodymium Block Magnets

Adams Magnetic Products offers neodymium magnets in square and rectangular blocks. These neodymium-iron-boron block magnets are widely used for motor, sensor, and holding applications.

Handle with care!

Please use caution when handling magnetized neodymium magnets; their exceptional magnetic force may cause them to attract to metal (or to each other) so strongly that fingers in their path could prove painful.

Features

  • Neodymium block magnets are the most powerful commercially produced magnets.
  • Neodymium magnets are hard and brittle and may chip or break if dropped.
  • Adams’ neodymium block magnets are magnetized through the thickness.
  • Uncoated neodymium magnets may corrode in humid conditions.
  • Operating temperatures vary among material grades.

For a comparison of neodymium material grades, please visit our chart of material properties.

Ask us about neodymium block magnets with a stepped perimeter. The stepped magnet shape provides an excellent attachment solution for several applications. They often avoid the need for glue or screws if the tongue or groove can slide into a mold, for example.

Neodymium magnets are often assembled into products using strong adhesives such as Loctite 325. Make sure that all contact surfaces are clean and dry prior to bonding. Read Adams’ white paper for more information on gluing magnets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a neodymium block magnet?

A neodymium block magnet is a square or rectangular rare earth magnet made from neodymium, iron, and boron (NdFeB). It delivers extremely high magnetic strength in a compact size and is commonly used in industrial and OEM applications.

These bar magnets are some of the strongest permanent magnets available. Holding force varies by grade, size, and magnetization direction, but they provide significantly more strength than ceramic or Alnico magnets of the same size.

Square or rectangular block magnets are typically available in grades ranging from N35 to N56, as well as high-temperature grades. Higher grades offer greater magnetic strength, while temperature-rated grades are designed for elevated operating environments.

Need help selecting the right grade? Our engineers can help you balance strength, temperature, and cost.

Standard Neo block magnets are rated for continuous operation up to 150°C (300°F). High-temperature grades are available for applications that exceed this limit and help prevent irreversible loss of magnetic strength.

These block magnets are typically coated for corrosion protection. Common coatings include:

  • Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni)
  • Epoxy
  • Zinc

Our team can recommend the best coating based on your operating environment.

Yes. Neodymium magnets are hard but brittle and may chip or crack if impacted or allowed to snap together. For demanding applications, magnets are often integrated into custom assemblies to improve durability and safety.

Yes. They can be customized by size, grade, coating, tolerance, and magnetization direction. Custom solutions are ideal for OEMs and high-volume applications with specific performance requirements.

They can be, with the proper coating or encapsulation. Exposure to moisture, chemicals, or temperature extremes requires careful material and coating selection to prevent corrosion and performance loss.

They’re commonly used in:

  • Industrial automation
  • Motors and sensors
  • Magnetic assemblies
  • Fixtures and tooling
  • OEM equipment

Yes. In fact, neodymium block magnets are the most powerful commercially produced magnets available today.

Selecting the right magnet depends on the required magnetic force, temperature, environment, and mechanical integration. Adams Magnetic Products works directly with engineers and purchasing teams to evaluate requirements and recommend the most reliable and cost-effective solution.
