Solar / PV Inverters
Solar / PV Inverters, inductive functions and related magnetic products
A
solar inverter or
PV inverter is a key component in any solar energy system.
It converts the power generated by the solar panel into well shaped AC power that can be fed
into the grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network.

DC/DC Boost
The DC/DC converter supplies a continuous and stable voltage to the AC/DC inverter in
order to guarantee enough AC output power. In many cases it is necessary to incorporate
galvanic isolation between the grid and the panels; this can be integrated into the
boost converter.
Magnetic Products Used
• Big E cores in power materials like 3C90, 3C92 or 3C95 for transformers

DC/AC Inverter
The majority of grid connected inverters deliver very well defined sinusoidal voltage
built by means of pulse width modulation (PWM). Capacitors and Inductors are required
to store the energy during the off cycle of the PWM in order to achieve a clean wave.
The inductor (in this case also called reactor) suffers very heavy currents, so high
saturation is needed.
Magnetic Products Used
• Bricks and segment assemblies for inductors in materials like 3P1 or 3C92

EMI Filter
The EMI filter consists of a common mode choke and capacitors. Its function is to
suppress high frequency common mode harmonics from the switching, and also to prevent
harmonics from the grid getting into the inverter.
Magnetic Products Used
• Large ring cores / toroids in hi-perm materials for common mode choke functions
