Ferroxcube Application Notes

Design of CCFL backlight inverters with frame & bar cores

LCD modules with backlighting lamps are widely used for Notebook PC's and LCD monitors. The DC/AC backlight inverter plays a crucial role in supplying the power for the lamp of these flat-panel displays. This application note describes extensively the design steps for CCFL backlight inverters, concentrating on the transformer. For a worked-out example with frame & bar cores, it results in core and winding design and thermal behaviour of the transformer. Additionally, the whole inverter circuit is modelled and a survey is given of core range and ferrite materials 3C90 and 3C91.

14Watt DC/DC Converter using Integrated Inductive Components

In compact step down converters, bobbin cores are often used as output inductor. This 20 page application note describes how a reference circuit has been modified in order to substitute a bobbin core by a fully gapped IIC. The result is a more compact circuit with the same performance. Design methods are explained in full detail, a complete component list is provided.
