Design of CCFL backlight inverters
with frame & bar cores
LCD
modules with backlighting lamps are widely used for Notebook PC's
and LCD monitors. The DC/AC backlight inverter plays a crucial role
in supplying the power for the lamp of these flat-panel displays.
This application note describes extensively the design steps for
CCFL backlight inverters, concentrating on the transformer. For
a worked-out example with frame & bar cores, it results in core
and winding design and thermal behaviour of the transformer. Additionally,
the whole inverter circuit is modelled and a survey is given of
core range and ferrite materials 3C90 and 3C91.
