Alan Ji

Applications Engineer

Alan Ji is an applications engineer in the fields of magnetic materials, magnetic assemblies, magnetic applications and products innovation. His expertise encompasses permanent magnets, soft magnets, magnets production and quality control, electromagnets, magnetic circuit design, magnetic testing and measurement, magnetization and fixture, motor application, MRI application, sensor application, magnetic separating, magnetic lifting and holding, and more. Through this blog, he will share his knowledge on both products and techniques, answer questions and provide possible solutions or feasibility analyses to your simple or sophisticated magnetic applications.

Alan earned a bachelor’s in physics from Lanzhou University in China, and continued his studies earning a master’s in magnetics engineering from Central Iron & Steel Research Institute, and a Ph.D. from the National Lab of Condensed Material Science and Physics Department of Nanjing University. He went on to serve as an assistant professor at Nanjing Normal University lecturing on solid-state physics, nuclear magnetic resonance and magnetics measuring and testing techniques.

Prior to joining Adams, Alan worked as a magnetics applications engineer providing technical support and product quality control with Yunsheng Magnetics in San Francisco. During his 16-year career, he has served in magnetics research and development roles at Tuson Corp. in Vernon Hills, Ill.; and at Merry Magnetics Co, Ltd., and Wuxian Mag-tech Component Factory in China.

Alan holds current memberships with of the Scientific Research Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Magnetics Society. He has published approximately 25 papers on research of magnetic materials and their physical structure and properties.
